Suresh Babu to head AP Film Chamber

Daggubati Suresh Babu will be the new president of the A P Film Chamber of Commerce for the year 2011-12. The post, which is filled by rotation, from various sectors every year, is reserved for the studio sector this year. Suresh Babu was chosen by the members of this sector to be their representative as his family owns and operates the Rama Naidu Film studios.
Elections to the executive body of the film chamber will be held on Sunday. Each sector is expected to elect 20 members and those who are elected will subsequently elect a chairman also for their respective sectors. Other office-bearers will also be elected from among them. The elections are expected to be a tame affair.
Suresh Babu who will take over as the new president of the film chamber told The Times of India that the chamber has already identified some priorities to take the Telugu film industry ahead this year. “There is a lot of potential and scope for the industry to make more revenue. These sources, especially the new media will have to be tapped properly for the industry to benefit,” said Suresh Babu, who is also a producer.
One main concern of the film industry is piracy, an issue they have taken up with the state government on occasion. It now wants the state government to deal firmly with this menace, and book offenders under the Goondas act like in Tamil Nadu. Suresh Babu also added that the film industry was also seeking as a priority, to gain more recognition at the national and international levels, as despite being the second most prolific film industry in the country; it had failed to win many awards at the national level.
He added that another challenging and ongoing aspect was to entice more viewers towards Tollywood cinema. “If the Telugu film industry has to survive, we have to look at methods and models that will hold audiences,” he said
