Story : Pawan Kalyan’s childhood gets disturbed as few goons kill his family and make him an orphan.
He meets Bhagwan(Jackie Shroff), who gives him support and also a gun to survive, and also names him as ‘Jaidev’.
Now Jai grows up with vengeance in his heart and uses the gun given to him and builds a mafia empire in kolkatta.
He becomes a rugged mafia leader his gang has war with kulkarni (atul kulkarni) gang.

In his action packed life, enters Sandhya (Sarah Jane Dias) and Jai gets attracted towards her.
Despite having a target in his mind and leading a risky lifestyle, jai couldn’t help himself from falling in love with sandhya.

Jai gets trapped into a murder committed by munna (Adivi Sesh), who is Bhagwan(Jackie Shroff)’s son.
Munna kills Jhanvi(Anjali Lavania), who refuses his advances and later gets killed in Jai’s hands.
To escape from bhagwan’s men, Jai re-enters his villageleaves kolkatta and meets sandhya in her village.
There he meets local police, Paparayudu(Brahmanandam), who has very bad reputation in the village.
How jaidev changes paparayudu’s image and uses him to finish off village’s villain sambasivudu and how bhagwan’s men trace him down forms the pre-climax.
They kidnap sandhya and Jai returns to kolkatta to release her.
How he faces kulkarni and bhagwan gangs alone is the climax.

Actors : Pawan Kalyan excelled both as mafia leader and lover.
His rugged full beard look, body language, dialogue delivery are impressive.
Especially in few scenes where his voice is used as narrative, he excels.
It is feast for fans to see Pawan’s rocking performance.

Sarah Jane Dias tried to look cute and romantic.
Eventhough she lacks the look, she managed few good expressions, especially in songs and in few romantic shots.

Anjali Lavania has very lesser role and is more of an item girl who has only 1 song.

Jackie Shroff, Tanikella Bharani, Atul Kulkarni and Subbaraju were as usual but new villain Adivi Sesh was excellent.
He showed varied expressions as a psycho villain and seems to have good future as a versatile actor on telugu screen.

Brahmanandam takes care of the comedy part in second half and infact without him, second half would be incomplete.
Especially, Paparayudu song shot on him and pawan was hilarious and is highlight of this movie.
Pawan Kalyan’s steps in this song gets huge response from crowds.

Technicians : This is a directors movie and Vishnuvardhan excels in his work.
His ideas can be seen through excellent cinematography of PS Vinod and art work of Sunil Babu.
In all technical departments, Yuvan Shankar Raja’s background music and PS Vinod’s cinematography standout as excellent works.
Editing by Sreekar Prasad is slick.
Stunts by Shyam Kaushal are thrilling, especially the climax fight.
Abburi Ravi’s dialogues are average and he doesnt use many oppurtunities in screenplay to showcase his talent.
Rahul Koda’s screenplay is gripping, except for few minutes in the begining of second half.
Vishnuvardhan has extracted best possible output from all his technicians in this movie.

Production values of Sanghamitra Arts and Arka Media are rich.

Highlights :

Pawan Kalyan’s presence and performance.
Cinematography by P.S.Vinod
Haunting Background Music by Yuvan Shankar Raja
Interval twist
Vishnuvardhan’s stylish taking
Comedy in second half
Verdict:
Panjaa is a stylish and sleek film that will probably not be enjoyed by Pawan fans. Regular moviegoers and non Pawan Kalyan fans will find the movie to be good. There are next to no commercial elements that people come to expect from Pawan Kalyan’s movies. But on the bright side, the stylish fight sequences, the subtle comedy and Pawan’s superbly restrained performance stand out in the movie. Brahmi’s episode is good. Watch it without expectations and you might enjoy the film.

Exclusive Interview of Adivi Sesh (Panjaa fame)

Adivi Sesh belonging to a family of writers made his debut with the offbeat film Karma as an actor and director. Although he received critical acclaim the film bombed at box-office. He is the younger brother of Sai Kiran Adivi who is known to us with films Vinayakudu and Karma (as presenter).

The actor in him is coming with a biggie this time in Panjaa and will be seen in a completely different avatar playing a villainous role. Adivi Sesh speaks his mind, about his career and Panjaa. The actor plans to charter a separate path for him among his peers. Here is an exclusive interview of Adivi Sesh

Q. How did you get this chance?

Sesh: It was because of one of our producers Neelima Tirumalasetti. She saw my first film Karma and felt that I’ll suit for this role and called me up to Hyderabad for discussion.

Vishnu too watched Karma and was impressed a lot with my performance in the film. They believed that I could do justice to this character. The rest is all you know.

Q. How was the working experience with Pawan Kalyan and unit of Panjaa?

Sesh: Fantastic!  Initially, I was a bit apprehensive being a new comer and he being such a huge star. But as soon as I joined the sets, all those apprehensions faded away from my mind. He is a thorough professional and true to the tag “People’s Power Star”. He is very down to earth and encouraged me throughout the movie.

On the first day of the shoot, he asked me “Where are you from?” I said I’m a Telugu guy sir. I hail from West Godavari district. Then he started interacting with me regularly on the sets and continued to be a valuable support throughout the making of Panjaa.

Q. Any memorable or funny incident on the sets?

Sesh: As I said, the first meeting with Power Star is the most memorable incident ever and I’m very happy for it.

Q. Tell me about your character in the film…

Sesh: I play an out and out negative character (villain) in the film. I along with Atul Kulkarni and Jackie Shroff play the three main antagonists in the film. The scenes involving me and Jackie Shroff have shaped up very well and audience will definitely love it.

Q. Are you doing a full length character in Panjaa?

Sesh: I play a major role in the film and I’ll be there in the movie in most crucial scenes involving Pawan Kalyan. The duration of my character will be up to 35-40 minutes. You can see me in Veyyara Cheyyi Veyyara song too.

Q. Apart from your role, which one you like the most?

Sesh: Pawan Kalyan’s! I have only negative shade in me and so do the other villains. But, Pawan Kalyan has many dimensions to his role. He plays a ruthless killer, a lover and has hilarious side too. So, he is the central character of the film and I really love it.

Apart from him, I like the character of Jackie Shroff the most. Also, I share most of my scenes with him in the film. His performance is remarkable.

Q. How about Brahmanandam’s character in the movie?

Sesh: He is a great comedian. His character is as you all know Paparayudu. The comedy episodes between Pawan and Brahmanandam are very hilarious and will be one of the highlights of the film. The song too is very hilariously choreographed on screen and will make fans go crazy. I’m actually waiting to see the response of it in theaters.

Q. There are rumors that the film is a tragedy, is this true?

Sesh: I can’t tell you this because I haven’t watched the film in its entirety till today (giggles).

Q. What’s your favorite song in the movie?

Sesh: I liked all the songs and especially Panjaa title song is my pick. Yuvan Shankar Raja is a great talent and he has given many great songs. But, Pawan Kalyan has taken that song to another level. He has with his reach taken the song to all the demographics. I can hear the song in a club, weddings, in mobiles and everywhere. It’s all because of only one man Pawan Kalyan!

After that, I like Kshanam Kshanam song for its beautiful lyrics.

Q. How was the film shaped up? Are you confident on film’s success at box-office?

Sesh: The film has been made with high technical values and a thought process behind every scene. Even a small scene, for example, the one you saw in the first teaser (Pawan in background with a gun shown) has been shot with lot of insight. From the positioning of the camera to the lighting, the Cinematographer (PS Vinod) and director have worked out on each scene like that.

On the whole, it’ll be a very stylish entertainer with nuances not seen before in Telugu cinema and this is where it will be path breaking and trendsetter. I hope our efforts will be rewarded.

Q. If offered, will you play negative roles again?

Sesh: I believe every film is a universe in itself and that universe has some defining characters. I’ve seen many films where hero is present from first to last frame but doesn’t define that universe and hence, that character is rendered useless. I don’t want to do such roles. I want to do characters that drive that universe and if that happens to be a negative or positive role I don’t mind doing it.

Q. Your future projects?

Sesh: The immediate project would be my second film as a director, where I’m only donning the director’s cap. Also, I’m looking forward to work as hero under the direction of my brother Sai Kiran Adivi. Right now, it’s in discussion stages.

Q. You said you are directing the film, is it going to be on the lines of Karma?

Sesh: It’s an interesting idea we are working on. The script work is currently going on; it’s a heist genre film with realistic humor. As I said, it’s still an ongoing process but that is the basic idea behind it.

Q. Any dreams roles?

Sesh: Yes, I do have dream roles, but right now I can’t tell you that. I’m waiting for the right script and if everything gets finalized, I’ll reveal the details.

Q. Did you watch any Pawan’s films earlier? If so, what’s your favorite?

Sesh: I’ve grown up watching Pawan’s movies like any other person. Especially his film Tholi Prema is the best film to me. I don’t think a film has ever influenced me like this film has. Pawan has shown what he is capable of in that movie. Sometimes, I used to think that can I act or romance a heroine on screen like him (smiles).

Pawan Kalyan and Mahesh Babu are the two big heroes I really admire. Their charisma is unmatched.

Q.  Tell us about the director of the film?

Sesh: Vishnuvardhan is a very talented and disciplined director. He knows how to engage the actors and how to extract the best from anyone. He narrated me my role for 6 hours by enacting himself when I went for the audition. He has a great eye for visuals and has a fabulous stylistic approach to mount a film. It is his directorial skills that differentiate this film from others in this (gangster) genre.

Q. As you said Panjaa is a gangster movie, such movies generally tend to be very heavy, how can a common man connect to this film and find it entertaining?

Sesh: Yes, Panjaa is a gangster movie, but the film has elements that would cater to or be liked by different sections of audience who are spread across A, B and C centers.

As I’ve said above, the visual aesthetics of the film sets it apart from others and give this film completely a different perspective and feel. And for this alone Panjaa is set to become a trendsetter among all the gangster movies. Director Vishnu along with PS Vinod (Cinematographer) has given the film an International look and feel which will stay with the audience long after the film is finished.

Q. Say a few words about the producers….

Sesh: They are pucca professional people with fantastic planning. They extended their support in all forms to all the unit members and that’s the reason for the movie to shape up that well.

Q. When are you planning to watch the movie?

Sesh: I’ve planned to watch it 4-5 times in a row in couple of multiplexes, single screens ranging from A, B and C centers.

Insights of Pawan Kalyan (About Twitter, Fans, Piracy and more...)

Exclusive Interview : Pawan Kalyan is my inspiration – Neelima Thirumalasetty

Neelima Thirumalasetty is a rarity in the Telugu Film Industry. Not only is she a dynamic person, she is also one of the very few ladies who produce films in the Telugu industry. We caught up with her for an exclusive chitchat. Here is the transcript for you folks. Read and enjoy.
Q) The big day is approaching. You must be pretty nervous.
A) (She Smiles) Nope. In fact, I am quite relaxed as the movie has come out well and we are confident about what we made.
Q) What made you get into movie production?
A) Well, the simple reason is Pawan Kalyan. I am a big fan of his and I have worked with him in the operation of Yuvarajyam (Praja Rajyam Youth division). He always encouraged me and when he wanted to make a fresh new kind of movie, we decided that we would want to produce it. Shobhu and my husband Nagesh are good friends and thats how we got together to produce Panjaa
Q) How is the experience of making a movie with a top star like Pawan.
A) Well, this entire experience changed my life for the better. It has been enriching and rewarding, but it has also been very tiring. We always had Pawan Kalyan’s support.Vishnuvardhan is an excellent technician who knows what he wants and when you are in the hands of professionals, things become fairly uncomplicated.
Q) What is the most appealing aspect of Panjaa?
A) Panjaa is a very fresh film. The taking and characterization will be very new and we have attempted to introduce some new styles to the Telugu Film Industry. Every character will be remembered for the way it has been moulded. We want people to remember the characters and not the people who portrayed them. I have seen the first copy of the movie and I am happy that we have achieved what we wanted to achieve.
Q) Brahmanandam’s comedy track is becoming a major point of interest. What would you say about that?
A) We had a fabulous time when shooting for the Paparayudu Song. Brahmanandam portrays a very important character in the movie and he makes his entry in the latter half of the movie. Pawan and Brahmanandam share a wonderful chemistry and it will look fabulous on screen.
Q) What about Ali? You are not highlighting his character. Is that a conscious decision?
A) (Smiles). Well, Ali has a very key role in the movie and it would be better not to reveal it now. You will enjoy it when you watch it. He will be seen quite a lot in the first half of the movie and he will be Pawan’s associate.
Q) Can fans expect a blockbuster from Pawan with Panjaa?
A) Absolutely! The movie will appeal to Pawan’s fans tremendously and they will come out of the theaters with a smile. There will not be any masala punch dialogues in the movie. Dialogues will be subtle and will have depth like the dialogue in the trailer. Abburi Ravi has done a fabulous job.
Q) The heroines are new to the Telugu Industry. Is it a conscious decision to avoid established heroines?
A) Yes. When we set out to make a new film. we did not want to cast established actresses as they bring a certain image with them. We wanted fresh faces with no baggage.
Q) Is that the reason why Pawan has a beard throughout the movie?
A) Yes. When we heard the script and Vishnuvardhan’s narration, we decided that Pawan Kalyan should sport an all new look. Something that no one ever saw him with before. We screen tested him with the beard and we liked that. You will see that our faith has been justified.
Q) Apart from Pawan, Brahmanandam and the heroines, who else should the public watch out for?
A) Adivi Sesh has delivered a superb performance as a negative character. Same is the case with Jackie Shroff and Atul Kulkarni. They are the other principal characters in the movie and both of them have delivered a stunning performance.
Q) How would you rate Vishnuvardhan as a director?
A) He is a top class guy. He has made sure that each and everyone delivered their best. He extracted every ounce of performance from the artistes and its not easy to do that. Even though the movie was shot in Kolkata, Polacchi and other places, the audience will not miss the Telugu nativity.
Q) What are your future plans?
A) I love this industry and I have grown both personally and professionally after I ventured into this field. A couple of discussions are going on and I will make films in future. The immediate next step would be a second massive release for Panjaa in Tamil. We plan to do that on a large scale worldwide.
With that, we ended the interview. Let us wish Neelima the very best for her maiden production ‘Panjaa’.

Panjaa Movie Preview

Powerstar Pawan Kalyan's Panjaa which is releasing on December 9th has many highlights. Few of them are listed below.

Panjaa Highlights:

Pawan Kalyan -  A star who doesn't need any introduction. He always encouraged innovative ideas and this film will be a trend setter. Pawan sports a macho look in the film and will be seen as a calm and composed guy who operates his mission. His terrific screen prensence, settled acting, comedy timing, natural and realistic stunts, grace in his dances and the priceless smile will take the film to a next level.

Action Sequences - Shyam Kaushal, who composed fights for Hrithik Roshan's 'Krishh' has worked for Panjaa. The stunts performed by Pawan in this film will remind us of Powerstar in Kushi days.

Brahmi's Comedy & Paparayudu Song - The Paparayudu song which was sung by Pawan and Brahmi has already topped the chartbusters. The duo shared a great rapport every time they teamed up. Even though some of the films failed at the Box Office, their comedy track always rocked. As per reports, Pawan and Brahmi will keep the audience in splits with their terrific comedy timing.

Cinematography - Renowned cameraman PS Vinod will be getting a lot of appreciation for his visual brilliance in Panjaa. Every shot in the film is picture perfect.

Vishuvardhan's Stylish Taking - Vishnu is known for his stylish action entertainers and Panjaa is no exception.  He fell in love with the script and has put in his heart and soul into the making of this project.  He succeeded in giving a new look to the film and you will notice his hard work in every frame. Very energetic and extremely talented Director.

Yuvan Shankar Raja's Songs and Background Score  - The songs have already become popular and the background score which has come out really well will compliment the mood of the film.

Producers - From the very first day, they have promoted the film with perfect planning. It's true that, no other producers who worked with Pawan Kalyan earlier has utilised the craze he has got to this extent. They have earned a good name in the industry as makers within a very shot span of time. Industry needs good producers and let's hope they produce many more films in future.

Panjaa has received the rare honour of making a place for it in US Magazine's news column even before the release.

"One of the most talked about new films from India is "Panjaa", a big-budget gangster adventure starring the hugely popular Pawan Kalyan," Michael Calleri, the reporter of The Niagara Falls wrote in his column.

What's more special about this achievement is that this Magazine has written columns about very few stars in India till date
