Miss Angola Leila Lopes was crowned Miss Universe 2011 in a glittering ceremony on Monday at Sao Paolo, Brazil. She is crowned by Miss Universe 2010 Ximena Navarrete, of Mexico.
The top 15 contestants participated in swimsuit, evening gown and interview segments, post which the ten finalists were chosen. And the title went to Miss Angola Leila Lopes. Leila Lopes, 25, is a business management student currently studying in Great Britain and is the first-ever representative of her country to bag the Miss Universe crown.
"Thank God I'm very satisfied with the way God created me and I wouldn't change a thing. I consider myself a woman endowed with inner beauty. I have acquired many wonderful principles from my family and I intend to follow these for the rest of my life," said Leila Lopes, in the interview segment.
India's Vasuki Sunkavalli failed to make it to the final 16 at the Miss Universe 2011 contest here. "Sorry. If I upset many. I did give it my best shot. May the most deserving girl win..," tweeted Vasuki, after missing the chance to bag the title.
India last won the title by Model-turned-Actress Lara Dutta in the year 2000.
