Ducati Desmosedici RR – 199 mph

It’s hard to believe that Ducati would be so audacious as to build a bike so close to being a racer. Most sports bikes are 800 cc midgets, but not this one. The Ducati patented steel trellis frame holds a V4 – 989 cc engine which is almost identical to its earlier racing feature – the D16GP6. This little devil puts out 200 horsepower (I know!) at 13,800 rpm. It generates a soft pulse timing, according to the company, but there is nothing soft about anything else.

The bike will set you back $72,500 and has a brilliant frontal design seemingly smirking at all oglers – so the eyeballs will definitely get fixed on you when you park this lethal weapon anywhere!

MV Agusta F4 1100 CC – 196 mph

The ‘CC’ in the name stands for Claudio Castiglioni – the creator and Managing Director at MV. Usually, when someone names a product after themselves you know that it’s going to dazzle. After Harley-Davidson bought MV, its been pretty good going with some special bikes which were not just made for the market. The CC has at its disposal a 1078 cc mega engine which puts out 200 hp at 12,200 rpm. The design is typically MV, with the single headlight and well-built feel. The ride comfort is very poor and your thighs will be aching after an hour or 2.

But it is the racing pedigree and Italian passion you will be looking for when you buy this. At $120,000 this is fast and gives you lots to boast about.

MV Agusta F4 1000 MT Tamburini  – 191 mph

Only 300 Tamburinis will ever be produced. It looks pretty good but it is the sound and power that really set this apart from its competitors. It is named after its chief designer & engineer Massimo Tamburini and boy has he created a masterpiece.

The engine puts out 176 hp which isn’t too much, but the designers never aimed at 200 hp. In spite of this, thanks to the revolutionary Torque Shift System (TSS) the Tamburini still touches 191 mph.

Kawasaki ZX-12R Ninja – 189 mph

This was Kawasaki’s response to the Suzuki Hayabusa and they really pumped it up. It takes the improbable speeds to 189 mph thanks to the 1200 cc engine. The engine, though powerful, meant that to achieve the high speeds intended, it would have to compete against the weight and drag efficiently. It generates 176 hp, the same as the F4 1000. The bike was 3 mph faster than the Hayabusa and more powerful as well.

It would appear the design is heavily borrowed from the Hayabusa which I never liked too much.

Suzuki GSX 1300 R Hayabusa – 186 mph

This really was Suzuki’s cash cow. Who would’ve thought a superbike would sell 10,000 units a year. As the years roll on, each new Hayabusa model is selling better than the last. The latest version is totally pumped up – with a 1340 cc behemoth producing 172.2 hp to the rear wheels. All that being said, the less mentioned about the looks the better.

The first Hayabusa was a path-breaker of sorts, so the pedigree really pushes it through.
