The number of new models launched for sale in 2010 by Yamaha and its cruiser brand Star motorcycles is fairly lean, especially in comparison with the last few years. Here is the list of new and old models that will constitute the 2010 line-up.
Star Stratoliner Deluxe
The biggest news for the year is the arrival of the Star Stratolinerin Deluxe variant. The motorcycle is based on the excellent /Stratoliner platform. It features an air-cooled, V-Twin engine displacing 1854cc. It inherits the light-yet-stiff, aluminum frame along with the impressive levels of fit and finish from the existing line-up of Stratoliner. New to the deluxe version is a sleek and streamlined fairing that shields the handlebar. The fairing looks a bit like a bat-wing and perfectly integrates into the bike’s design. The bike’s rear-end is largely dominated by the aerodynamic saddlebags. The motorcycle goes for a cheap and innovative solution for the audio system. It constitutes of an amplifier and speaker located on the fairing which uses iPod or other compatible MP3 players as the source.
Prices for the deluxe version start at $17,490.
V-Star 1300 Tourer
The V-Star 1300 offers plenty of power and a high degree of fit and finish. Yet it is an underrated cruise. The main reason could be its positioning in the market, which fall bang in the middle of high-end cruisers and budget bikes. However, the V-Star 1300 Tourer manages to find plenty of delighted customers.
To freshen up the looks, the Tourer version receives some ergonomic and cosmetic tweaks. The new seats are nearly an inch lower than the existing model. The handlebars are reshaped for comfort keeping in mind the lower riding position. The cosmetic changes include a dash of chrome and a new insignia on the fuel tank. Prices for this 2010 version will start form $11,790 MSRP.
The other models from the Star range that will be on sale next year include the Raider, Raider S, V-Star 950 and the V-Star 950 Tourer.
There are no new models from Yamaha for 2010, but there are a few updated models.
Yamaha YZF-R6
The 2009 YZF-R6 was a fairly disappointing bike from the performance point of view. This was because of the new noise restriction that forced Yamaha to re-tune the engine to a lower state. This came as a disappointment as the bike was nothing short of brilliant in every other sense.
This problem has been rectified in the 2010 model with a series of tweaks on the engine. This was made possible by modifying the air box and the intake funnels. The exhaust revisions include different-sized exhaust pipes and a four inches longer muffler. The revised ECU program manages to maintain the top-end performance while improving the low-end and mid-end power. Prices for this 2010 version will start form $10,490 MSRP.
Yamaha YZF-R1 Limited Edition
Yamaha will offer a limited edition R1 for 2010. The bike is inspired from MotoGP champion Valetino Rossi’s bike. Apart from the cross plane crankshaft, the bike also shares plenty of graphic kits that mimic Mr. Rossi’s bike. This includes the #46 on the nose and above the taillight. It features multicolored “The Doctor” tag on the windscreen and Rossi’s signature on the fuel tank. This Rossi tribute will go for sale with prices starting from $14,500.
Yamaha FZ1
Yamaha has re-mapped the ECU of the 2010 FZ1 to give the bike a liner torque curve and improved low-end response. Price for the updated version is set at $10,290.
The other models that will make it to the showrooms are the FJR1300 and the FZ6R.
