Nuthan Prasad Life Journey

This Is Special Article On The Ocassion Of 66th B'Day Of Nutan Prasad

You meet any young want to be stars of today and ask them  what do they want to be. An invariable answer is that they would want to be hero or heroine. Though there is nothing wrong in aspiring to be lead pair, one wonders how many heroes and heroines can the industry accomodate. That takes us back to the times when actors like Nutan Prasad were active in films.
He wanted to be an actor and play roles in cinema with no ifs and buts attached to the roles offered, which is a streak of real artiste. Nutan Prasad who was born as Tadinada Satyadurga Varaprasad at Kota Kalidhondi near Kaikaluru in Krishna district on December 12, 1945 was perhaps born only to be an actor.
Prasad was a multi-tasker from his childhood and balanced his studies with dramatics and stage shows. He continued this balancing act even after he found a job in Hindustan Aeronautics Limited in Hyderabad. He toured several parts of the country playing roles in drama even as he continued to do his job. His captivating performance in the drama titled 'Gaalivaana' won him thousands of fans across the state. He even got state level awards for his action in this drama. He was a part of over 300 drama performances and was an 'A' graded radio drama artiste. Like many stars who entered cinema industry from dramatics, Nutan too took his love towards films.
His first movie was 'Needaleni Aadadhi'. However 'Andhala Ramudu' released first. His voice, mannerisms, expressions and personality was instantly appealing. He lived in his roles and was so convincing as negative lead that innocent movie goers used to hate him thinking he is real life goon and bad man.
His third film 'Muthyalamuggu' was a phenomena in Telugu cinema world. His role as a lecherous man made him a household name. There was no looking back for him ever since.Nutan was mandatory in every film title that hit the screens thereafter.
Between 1976 and 1989 he acted in 360 films which is difficult to even fathom for many these days. Telugu audience who adored Nagabhushanam, Rao Gopalrao and Satyanarayana  found an extension of their action in Nutan. He played a doting dad, trust worthy friend, comedy villain, laughing stock, womaniser, caring brother, funny king, power hungry politician, vulnerable father, hilarious grandfather, doubtful husband and every role a that comprises humanity.
His dialogue delivery will remain reference worthy in 'Kalpana' and his action will stay uncontested in 'Chalicheemalu'. Apparently, someone told him that if he drank beer, his cheeks would swell and so he took to alcohol and became an addict.A month before 'Chalicheemalu', he gave up drinking and declared himself 'Nutan'(new) Prasad and ensured his name was carried that way in all the titles thereafter.
His Saithan role in Bapu's 'Rajaadhiraju' is a must watch for anyone who wants to see how one lives a charecter. The song 'Kothaadevudandi....Kongotha Devudandi..' from this picture is still wet in the memories of movie goers.
Prasad's self referral dialogue 'Nutokka Jillala Andagadini' is cult. No matter who uses it and when they use this phrase, its ownership will remain with Nutan, thanks to the voice with which he resonated that dialogue in the film.
If an actor of today delivers the dialogue 'Desam Chala Klishta Paristhitulo Undi' (the country is in a critical condition today), in all probability, it will go unremembered. It took Nutan to immortalise the dialogue.
The year 1989 was terrible for him. Perhaps time didn't like the pace at which he was progressing and wanted to slow him down. On February 17th that year,he met with an accident at AVM Studios in Chennai on the sets of Rajendraprasad, Gautami and Bhanumati Ramakrishna starrer 'Bamma Maata Bangaru Baata'. His legs had to be amputated and this news came as a rude shock to film industry.
Despite the physical challenge, he continued to act sitting on the wheel chair. After his accident in 1989, till he died this week, he acted in over 110 films which reflects the will power that man had.He served as the secretary of Ravindra Bharathi, gave voice overs to movies and dubbing to senior stars. He got Bapu to sketch the iconic paintings of nine emotions (Navarasalu) which now are placed in all popular auditoriums in the state. His voice brought popularity to crime show 'Neralu Ghoralu' in ETV2 which was a rage in its own market.
He lent his voice to Gummadi for 'Ayanaku Iddaru' and Amjad Khan in 'Simhasanam'. He stayed away from controversies all through his career. He was every camp's actor. He was every movie goer's favourite. He was a brand in himself. His voice had the power to grab your attention and one could never imitate him.His histrionics were never seen before. He didn't give up even after the accident. He looked any age he wanted on screen. He acted with stars of all generations including NTR, ANR, Venkatesh, Balakrishna, Shobhanbabu and Krishna. His onscreen and offscreen life is worth emulation for it was near perfect.
He passed away On 30 March 2011 due to cardiac arrest in Hyderabad. He left a void that could never be filled. Since he is irreplacable, his action will always remain 'new' and hence Nutan is eternal Prasad.
